The Belle Plaine chapter of Dollars for Scholars was established in 1991 by a group of parents interested in providing financial incentives for students to enter post-secondary education. The chapter is a community driven organization where local monies are generated and distributed to Belle Plaine graduating seniors.

Through the years, the Belle Plaine community and its past graduates have established over 90 sponsored scholarships. Also the the 716 Club, a program to donate money without the obligation of a sponsored scholarship, presently has 94 individual, family, or business members at varying monetary levels.

In 2011, the Belle Plaine chapter of Dollars for Scholars awards topped $1,000,000. In 2018, awards topped $1,646,600.
